Those of us who work on the football pools volunteer to do this on our own time. I'm sure no one has time to keep up with all the sports. It would require a hell of a lot of work.

then why not call it "football challenge" instead of "sports challenge". Lol. Just sayin.

lol jess, because football challenge does not really sound right.

That's not necessarily true. Soccer stuff also goes onto it, which I suppose the english call football. To my understanding, there are also some of the baseball things that go on there as well, probably around playoff season. I'm sure that the CL's and admins would put up other sports if it was remotely possible to do them. However, there are games in various sports like hockey, basketball and the baseball regular season daily, if not 2 or 3 times a week per team. This would give little time for the people who actually like these sports to actually keep up with the pools. furthermore, the interest in those sports is not as high as it is for other sports. If only 2 or 3 people fill out a pool relating to the night's games for basketball for example, well, no offense, that's not really worth it in my opinion.

In offices you often see football pools, like the one here, only instead of betting points you throw down your loot.
Not really something the HR types approve of and all, but it happens, and has happened for decades.
And this Sports Challenge looks something like it. Nobody takes up a pool on basketball or hockey, or baseball. I've never seen that done in the same way. So to me it seems like they're just following the way it usually works.

naa not sayin do all hockey games, just the playoffs, like baskitball playoffs are here, and hockey playofss are allmost here also.
so we could just say who will win the first round, in how many games, that kind of stuff. and there's only 16 teams in the playoffs, so it's easy.

What a bunch of whiners. Why don't you shoot the admins and take over the site and see how easy it is to do all the things you want them to do?

Post 12 by TechnologyUser2012 (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 24-Mar-2012 10:11:57

Exactly. Some people are just never satisfied. There's already plenty of features and stuff to do on this site to keep one quite occupied. Like it or not, you can't always get everything you want in life.

Post 13 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Saturday, 24-Mar-2012 18:12:27

Then why not just say "No, we can't do that." And call it a day? if people choose to whine and complain after that point, that's their deal, but how can people ever know whether a suggestion can be implimented if they don't ask? and honestly, these people here on this topic weren't even being very rude or overly pushy about it. It was just a "Hey, is this possible? It would be cool to see this." type thing. I'm not undermining the admins' work at all, nor am I encouraging bitching and complaining, but the last couple posts appeared to come off as responses to rude, overbaring, bitchy demands that I, personally, don't see.

Here's the problem with this. First, the NHL thing was tried in the past by me, and there were only 8 or 9 people filling out the pools, so I didn't find it worth my time. I picked every Saturday durring the NHL season once the NFL season ended, and ran with it for awhile. But not enough people took interest in this. Also, we really won't know the playoff schedule until after the regular season ends, so that doesn't give the users much of a chance to pick their teams before the first game of the playoffs start. So, all this to say, that other ideas have been looked at, but were dropped due to the impracticality or lack of interest of them. I hope this clears up any confusion.

thanks for that, Scott. though I've honestly never been a huge fan of Sports challenge myself, it's nice to see someone posting a clear explanation for why the ideas suggested here won't work at this time.

I post the English premiership football every week. Ironically when this topic was posted, it was the first pool this season I was late posting, and that was pool 28, so not bad going if I have to say so myself. It's been a busy couple of weeks for me away from the zone, and so it happened that way, but like Becky said, we volunteer to do this, and while we're all willing to listen to sensible suggestions, criticism without good reason just makes us not wish to bother. Plus I should comment that if I get 10 people filling in the English pool I think we've had a good week, whereas I know others would stil feel it's not really worth the time and effort.

PorkInCider I don't think it was ment to afend anyone it was just a suggestion. Jus tseeing if we could do something or not.
And BTW I think all zoners appreciate all the work you guys do.
